Since Sunday is the day of rest, I thought I would keep things simple. Everyone knows that the first sentence or two of a book has to grab the reader, so I'll grab the nearest book that has to do with history, historical romance, or writing and read you the opening sentence. You see if you can guess what it is, or share an opening sentence for the book nearest you. If you get it right, I might even give you a little prize.
Here we go. This week's sentence.
Out of every fifteen thousand unsolicited manuscripts submitted by authors to any given trade book publisher, one will get selected from the slush pile and go on to get published. Maybe.
